So I have been doing yoga casually on and off for years, and only in the past few months have I gotten pretty serious about doing yoga. I have been practicing for at least an hour a day almost every day for the past few weeks and I feel so great!! I even invested in some really good quality yoga gear. A Manduka PROlite mat (in my favorite color purple!) and some awesome yoga attire from Beyond Yoga and Spiritual Gangster. I soon realized though that along with a lot of great workouts comes a lot of sweat and stink. I had all the gear, but no way to clean it! Instead of going out and buying some fancy, expensive mat cleaner, I decided to make my own.
Here is my simple, all-natural yoga mat cleaner recipe. This recipe also works as a great all-purpose cleaner for around the house and for other exercise gear!
You will need:
- 1 cup of white vinegar
- 3 cups of distilled (or perhaps filtered) water
- about 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil (tea tree oil is known for having antimicrobial properties)
- other essential oils such as eucalyptus if you want (I didn't add any)
Spray down your mat and let it sit for a few minutes. Then wipe it down with a damp cloth and then let it air dry. Don't forget to do the other side!
That's it! Your done! Now go clean that stinky mat of yours!
